The first week in October 1962 heralded three historic and auspicious events. Incredibly with the benefit of hindsight, two of the most iconic phenomena in British and global culture and entertainment premiered on the same day, 5th October 1962………
Parlophone Records released the Beatles’ first vinyl single “Love Me Do” and United Artists released the first James Bond film “Dr No”………..Meanwhile Dr Cochrane delivered me into the world the day before on the 4th October 1962!!
So the Beatles, James Bond and I all celebrate our 50th Anniversary this week!! Now I grant you that I would not figure particularly highly in the Pantheon of Great Cultural Icons as the Beatles and James Bond clearly do, but nevertheless it’s a great privilege to have arrived in the world in the same week as arguably the greatest band and the greatest film icon in the history of modern culture. I would suggest that the Beatles first single and the first James Bond film both premiering in the first week of October 1962 means that we can trace the birth of the “Swinging Sixties” to the 5th October 1962. Either way it’s a good excuse to celebrate a joint 5oth Anniversary for the Beatles and James Bond………oh, and not forgetting me too!!
Producer George Martin and the Beatles set the benchmark for all the music that followed in the 1960s and 1970s and producers Albert
Cubby Broccoli and Harry Saltzman did the same in the film industry with James Bond. Both the Beatles and Bond have oft been imitated, but never matched. It’s impossible to imagine a world without the Beatles and James Bond……..So to celebrate the twin historic landmarks, here’s a Top 5 Bond Film Theme Songs and a Top 5 Beatles Songs that would have made great Bond Film Themes –
1) Paul McCartney & Wings – Live & Let Die
2) Shirley Bassey – Diamonds are Forever
3) Carly Simon – Nobody Does It Better
4) Shirley Bassey – Goldfinger
5) Tom Jones – Thunderball
Top 5 Beatles Songs……
…that would have made great Bond Film Themes

3) Get Back
