Do you remember when the Tea Dance at the Ritz turned into a Ballroom Blitz?! One of our #RecordStoreDay2026 competition winners does - Colin French's #firstrecord was bought from Woolworths in Reading in Sept 1973 for the princely sum of 45p, along with a bag of chocolate footballs.....
Of course a few years later in 1975 The Sweet's Tea Dance Foxtrot became "Fox on the Run"!!

#AlexanderGrahamBellDay "Tales of the Telephone Box" Competition.... Our second winning entry, winning this framed ELO vinyl single came from Julia Lewry, who reminisces: "It's just after 6pm, waiting outside the phone box, foot holding the door open....Ring ring....My beau calls, we discuss school, plan our next date and utter sweet nothings....then the pips start to go. We say our goodbyes. Meanwhile on 160 my Dial-a-disc memory was Telephone Line by ELO... I leave happy and content."

This is a comic Xmas gift for a neighbour Jonty, who plays with us at our local tennis club at the end of our street, but always drives the two minute walk from his home....So we created this anthem for him to highlight the absurdity of playing a sport for two hours but not walking to the court, which is only a tennis ball toss from his home!!

Three of the four Beatles had hits with a #ChristmasSong....Ringo Starr was the exception unless you count Thomas the Tank Engine. This was Lennon's contribution in 1972; two years later George Harrison had a minor hit with "Ding Dong" and Paul McCartney had a hit in 1980 with "Wonderful Christmastime"

At the risk of "name dropping" ( God forbid!! ), at the time that this was a UK hit in 1990, I went to one of Roachford's house parties in Archway, North London. I wandered into the library and saw Leee John of the band Imagination....I acknowledged him but didn't engage in conversation until two girls entered the room, recognised him, but couldn't identify him....I of course glibly and smugly suggested that "they use their imagination" before walking out of the room...
This was Genesis' second hit single from 1977 and a tribute to #MatchoftheDay fronted by Jimmy Hill at the time with only two highlighted matches, one from the old First Division and one from the then Second Division, commentated on by the legendary John (sheepskin coated fan's fan) Motson and Barry (Oxford Uni educated & debonair) Davies. It is a #gift to a 22 year old footie mad lad who loves playing FIFA Manager but appreciates the heritage and history of his beloved game....

If ever an old TV drama or in this case sit com theme song evokes happy memories from childhood, it is this one, the theme to "Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads" 1973-1974. The lovable likely lads were played by Rodney Bewes as the gullible, decent "Bob" and James Bolan as the roguish but charming "Terry"....

We mark #DyslexiaAwarenessMonth every year with a framed Slade vinyl single as the band's song titles were totally dyslexic!! Released for Xmas 1973, when the modern trend for Christmas chartbusters started with Slade's "Merry Xmas Everybody" and Wizzard's "I Wish It Could Be Xmas Everyday", poor old Norman Wisdom was totally eclipsed by those two Glam Rock ensembles. Maybe he should have sung something less christmassy like "You're a pink Wisdom toothbrush; I'm a blue Wisdom toothbrush"!! At least he would have featured on Ed "Stewpot" Stewart's Radio 1 "Junior Choice" request show on Christmas Day 1973!!

One of two iconic tunes from the soundtrack of Mike Leigh's comedy classic "Abigail's Party" ( BBC1's "Play for Today" ) from 1977 that showcased Alison Steadman's monumental talent as the monstrous suburban housewife. The other memorable track from the soundtrack was Demis Roussos' "Forever and Ever".

This was legendary comic duo Stan Laurel and Ollie Hardy's only excursion into the UK Charts in December 1975, when it reached No2. It was denied the No1 spot by Queen's mammoth "Bohemian Rhapsody", which broke all records at the time by staying at the top of the "Chart Christmas Tree" for 9 weeks!!

Created as a retirement gift for Bob Dylan fan Karl at Natural England as you can see from the engraved plaque engraving!!
We hope the framed 7" vinyl single of the very appropriate "The Times they are a Changin' " proves portentous and that Karl finds the changing times in retirement to his liking!!
Nottingham based gifting website MyFirstRecord.co.uk supports the Alzheimer's Society & gives / donates 2% of the revenue for each framed vinyl we sell to the Society, as their message regarding the positive power & influence of music strikes the same chord ( if you will pardon the intentional pun!! ) as the sentiment and premise of our business MO ( Modus Operandi ).
With this in mind we created this framed John Miles tune for TV actress and local lass Vicky McClure & the Our Dementia Choir.

We are particularly happy to support The Good Weigh #thegoodweigh, a Zero Waste Store, in our local neighbourhood, Lady Bay, in Nottingham. They provide "plastic free groceries to help maintain our beautiful planet"
We gave outgoing, retiring owner / founder Kate a special "thank you" #framedrecord of "My Way" by Frank Sinatra with an engraved plaque: "My Way, The Right Way, The Good Weigh"

Jill won our #Eurovision2019 competition on social media. This is what she said at the time: "My favourite Eurovision song is Waterloo, I was 9 when Abba won in 1974. My friend and I would grab our hairbrushes and stand in front of a mirror singing along to it, happy days. And my love for them still continues to this day. The sad thing is my childhood friend and fellow Abba fan passed away a couple of weeks ago. So I'll treasure those memories"
It's somewhat appropriate that the recipient has this framed vinyl of "Bye Bye Baby" by the Bay City Rollers in her hallway by the front door ( Julia won our #RIPLesMcKeown competition ). Perfect for visitors leaving her home!....We just need to frame something for guests arriving at her home.......Maybe "Hello" by Lionel Richie or "Hello, I love you" by The Doors?!
Hopefully this will make up in no small way for the recipient's disappointment at not being able to get tickets for the final #ozzyosbourne gig & the reunion of the original #BlackSabbath line-up at the #BacktotheBeginning festival of music at Villa Park Birmingham, in July 2025!! Together we have definitely gone "back to the beginning" in 1970 with the framed record of the band's first hit #Paranoid

The customer's Dad retired a few years ago and this was his 60th birthday gift from his daughter to hang on the wall as he has recently converted her old childhood bedroom into a music studio. The record is a very special one for the family, as the customer's Grandma ( recipient's Mum ) was one of the backing singers on the track
Apparently the recipient positioned her framed vinyl of "Bye Bye Baby" by the Bay City Rollers in her hallway by the front door ( Julia won our #RIPLesMcKeown competition ). Maybe we also need to frame something for guests arriving at her home too.....How about "Hello" by Lionel Ritchie or "Hello, I love you" by The Doors?!
A great premise / backstory for this birthday gift "for a very special friend": a framed 7" vinyl single of "One Day in Your Life" by Michael Jackson, as the song was No1 on the day the donor / giver first met the recipient at Primary school when they were just four years old! Somehow the title of the song seems incredibly apt!!

My first record is displayed elsewhere in this gallery, but this SHOULD have been #myfirstrecord.....In February 1974 my Mum bought my best mate Stephen "Tiger Feet" ( "furry feline feet" ) for his 12th birthday, but despite my incessant begging would not part with a further 45 pence for a copy for me.....In the end I bought a copy at a car boot sale for just 10p five months later, but this time asked my more generous Dad to bankroll the purchase on this occasion!!
The "Crazy Horses" the Osmonds referred to in this song in 1972 were the big gas-guzzling American cars, so this song was ecologically in pole position!! We wholeheartedly support #EarthWeek & protecting the global environment, which is why we are more than happy to recycle plastic / vinyl records and all of the packaging we use in shipping....

Almost the whole of the moon in terms of the positioning of the vinyl single, although there's a slight eclipse as the customer requested the top of the moon / vinyl be allowed to peep over the top of the sleeve. Where ever possible we endeavour to accommodate all customer requests, whether idiosyncratic foibles or not!!
