The wet weather is upon us, which can only mean one thing – Wimbledon and Glastonbury are just around the corner!! We are entering the music festival season and seasoned campaigners will know all the pitfalls. However if you are a music festival virgin, here
are ten tips on how to maximise your enjoyment.
1) DO take a bountiful supply of toilet rolls, or preferably your own Portaloo with it’s own security guard and the Andrex Toilet Roll Puppy to guard it from trespassers!! Public toilets at festivals are notoriously like a scene from Dante’s Inferno!! Be warned!! The “Andrex Puppy” could double up as a toilet roll holder or a substitute for toilet roll if it runs out!!
2) DO take a pen and paper. As is often the case, if you get separated from your friends, you can leave a note in their tent so they know where to find you.Don’t rely on your mobile phone for communication!! Theft, loss, poor signal or dead battery could rob you of the communication channel that we have all become heavily reliant on!!
3) DON’T bother with swimming trunks, a bikini or wellies. Despite the wet season arriving in time for the festival season, such has been the nature of the Spring drought, mud baths and reservoirs will not be in existence this year. It is unlikely that there will be any surface
water for any length of time.
4) DO take kagools, waterproofs – Wimbledon and Glastonbury are upon us, so that automatically guarantees the start of the monsoon season!!
5) DON’T try and see everything. Particularly at Glastonbury, be sensible. Don’t spread yourself too thinly – if you try to see too much, you end up not doing justice to anything. Be selective and self disciplined. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking that the grass is greener in the field on the other side of the festival site!!
6) DO try and experience something new. Look beyond your normal box or comfort zone. Try and sample a couple of music genres that do not normally fall into your taste bracket.
7) DO take a hat. It will protect your face from the sun and protect your head from the rain.
8 ) DO take an umbrella if you are of a certain age and not bothered about street cred, but are bothered about comfort. Don’t be afraid to be the “Wally with the Brolly”!!
9) DO take a caravan or Winnebago motor home, if you are taking the kids, are Daily Mail readers and can afford it. Toilet trips, drying out clothes etc become a nightmare when the children are in tow.
10) DON’T share a tent with someone who snores like an elephant!! Sleep deprivation over three or four nights could wreck your stamina and enjoyment of the occasion.
