What a week it has been for Sheffield band the Arctic Monkeys, as they add five NME awards to the two Brit Awards they won last week.

With the melting of the polar ice cap, the Arctic Monkeys moved south of the North Pole to Sheffield in 2005, but in the intervening nine years have now populated the whole of the UK and much of Europe. On this basis alone the Arctic Monkeys must be the most successful Indie rock species of this decade?

Like Oasis before them on the evolutionary rock scale, the Arctic Monkeys have exported their Northern angst and belligerence south to a whole generation, including Middle England and the student market. Surely it is this mass appeal that makes them the “Sons of Oasis” and the “Fathers of the Next UK Indie Rock Generation”?

The Arctic Monkeys will define this decade, as Oasis did 20 years ago in the 1990s. To celebrate the Arctic Monkeys place at the “Top Table of Rock”, here is the Record Press Top 10 Best Arctic Monkeys Songs –
