National Curry Week 2011 runs from the 9th to the 15th October and for the first time invites not only curry restaurants, caterers, pubs, canteens  all over Britain to participate, but also the curry loving public in the UK who wish to dine at home with a takeaway or a prepared meal.

The organisers of National Curry Week invite both the dine in and dine out sectors to celebrate the cuisine and culture with special dinners, raffles, auctions and record-breaking attempts like The Poppadom Tower Challenge. The current record, officially recognised and verified by the Guinness Book of Records, are a tower 1.48m (4 ft 10 in) set by Nahim Aslam and Fayaz Aslam, at the Indian Ocean Restaurant, Ashton-Under-Lyne, Lancashire on 9 October 2007 and an even bigger Poppadom Tower built by Arfan Razak, owner of Curry Lounge, Nottingham that measured 1.51m (4ft 11.4ins).

If you are planning on celebrating National Curry Week 2011 at home with an Indian takeaway, here are five songs you can download on your iPod as a suggested soundtrack, as an alternative to the conventional piped sitar music to be found when dining out in Indian restaurants.
