When I wake up on these summer mornings, I think I’m still dreaming….. I draw back the curtains to be greeted by clear blue skies and wall to wall sunshine and every day seems to offer the opportunity for heroics by British sportsmen and women.

On the back of finally having a British male Wimbledon Champion after 77 years, England got off to a winning start in the Ashes Test series. At the time of writing Chris Froome is leading the Tour de France, following on from Bradley Wiggins victory last year. And of course, we have several recent Majors winners in the golf arena ie Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose, with a realistic chance of winning the British Open at Muirfield on Sunday.

To quote Sean Connery in Goldfinger, when Bond sees Pussy Galore for the first time……”I mussst be dreaming”……..That’s how it feels to be British at the moment…….We are living in a completely different country from this time last year, when we were awash with torrential, monsoon rains and Andy Murray had just lost the Wimbledon Final, “proving conclusively” that British sports stars were perennial losers. Then the end of July arrived and the rain finally stopped, miraculously just in time for the London 2012 Olympics……. and then it was Olympian miracles all the way for two weeks…….and the rest is history!! We now live in a “land fit for heroes” and sun worshippers!!
