Q Magazine, as part of their 25th anniversary celebrations, have recently polled their readers on their favourite album from the past quarter of a century. The special birthday issue of Q Magazine, which is currently on sale, lists the top 250 albums as voted for by the readers of the magazine. The Top 10 offers few surprises……..

03) ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?’ – Oasis
04) ‘Definitely Maybe’ – Oasis
05) ‘Whatever People Say I Am That’s What I’m Not’ – Arctic Monkeys

07) ‘The Stone Roses’ – The Stone Roses
08) ‘The Bends’ – Radiohead
09) ‘Achtung Baby’ – U2
10) ‘Black Holes and Revelations’ – Muse
What would be your Top 10 favourite albums? It’s not an easy task, to collate a definitive Top 10, but this is mine –
01) Beatles – Sgt Pepper
02) Pink Floyd – Dark side of the Moon
03) David Bowie – Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust
04) Small Faces – Ogden’s Nut Gone Flake
05) Oasis – Definitely Maybe
06) Genesis – And then there were Three
07) Oasis – What’s the Story Morning Glory?
08) Verve – A Northern Star
09) Simple Minds – In the City of Lights
10) Beatles – Revolver
……….. and I don’t mind telling you that that was a virtually impossible task, causing great agonising and soul searching. In the end the only way I could separate a Top 10, from a potential Top 50, was to utilise the strict criterion of only including albums where I considered every track as excellent. In other words the Top 10 albums are flawless; the epitome of perfection!!

I’ve just tried to do this and like you say, this is a seriously hard task to do! Question is though, can you recreate you list to only include albums from the last quarter of a century? I can’t!
