When my father was alive, it was an annual nightmare buying him a present for Father’s Day or his Birthday!! For starters, he didn’t like any fuss or attention, and secondly ignoring that fact, materially he wanted for nothing. So finding an original or quirky gift was like going in search of The Holy Grail or Golden Fleece!! Do you kids and older kids ( “Kidults” ) have the same dilemma each year when searching for a Father’s Day present?
Well if Dad is a music fan (and there aren’t many who are not into music!! ), the chances are he remembers and has an innate affection 
for vinyl records and / or CDs, once known as compact discs. His love of music could form the basis for a unique Father’s Day gift idea. With a little Blue Peter-esque innovation and invention on your part, here are a few suggestions on how to give him a unique gift or original present made from vinyl records or CDs, that may bring a smile to his face!!
The last thing Dad really wants is to be reminded of is the inexorable passage of time, so if you want to bug him, remind him that he is a hostage to fortune and Old Father Time, by giving him a clock on Father’s Day or his Birthday!! But not any old clock, a custom made one using his favourite vinyl single or vinyl album – I would suggest that you buy a second hand record, and refrain from using one of his cherished records from his collection!! He may not ever play them, but I can guarantee that he will still be emotionally and sentimentally attached to his vinyl records!!
So if you are feeling ambitious, a clock kit can be purchased at most craft stores. Of course don’t forget to glue a picture hanger to the back of the record. If you are feeling really lazy, another Father’s Day present idea is transforming old CDs into drink coasters for Dad as a Father’s Day gift, which will require no effort whatsoever.
