One of the most iconic film set props will be auctioned at Sotheby’s on the 14th December 2012.The 58-key piano from the film “Casablanca”, worth an estimated £1.2 million, will go under the hammer, marking the 70th anniversary of the film.

The piano was featured in the memorable flashback scene in Paris at the La Belle Aurore Bar / Club where the romance sparks between Humphrey Bogart’s character Rick and Ilsa, played by Ingrid Bergman. In one of Hollywood’s most iconic film scenes the pianist, Sam, plays “As Time Goes By” on the piano during the romantic scene. “Casablanca” has been named the most romantic and quotable movie of all time by the American Film Institute and also features in their Top 3 Best Film Songs & Film Themes. Judy Garland’s “Over the Rainbow” from “The Wizard of Oz” is No1 in the American Film Institute’s list of 100 Best Movie Songs, followed by “As Time Goes By” from “Casablanca” at No2 and Gene Kelly’s title tune from “Singin’ in the Rain” at No3.
