ITV recently broadcast another programme in their series “The Nation’s Favourite……”. This time it was “Nation’s Favourite 1970s No1s” and for those of the Record Press author’s vintage, it was quite a trip down Memory Lane or Cobbled Street, for those than can recall the 1970s Hovis TV commercial.

So I decided that Record Press should produce our own Top 25 Best 1970s UK Singles Chart No1 Songs. With  a few exceptions it chimes with ITV’s “Nation’s Favourite 1970s No1s”. We overlap / agree on thirteen songs, allowing for the fact that we have cheated as  ours is a Top 25 and ITV produced a Top 20.

So here it is in all its glory – an eclectic group of songs reflecting the diversity of musical genres that populated the UK Singles Chart in the 1970s.
