Is it really forty years since we spent 365 days in the crazy year that was 1973?!! Yes, 1973 celebrates a 40th Anniversary this year, which is an odd concept…..a year having an anniversary!!

For many 1973 was a tough year, with the three day working week and a commensurate reduction in wages. However for the Recordpress author, as a 10/11 year old growing up in an exciting world of “firsts”, 1973 was a magical year!! 1973 was the year I first watched the FA Cup Final ( when massive favourites Leeds United were beaten 1-0 by underdogs Sunderland ). It was also the year I saw my first James Bond film, when my parents took me to see “Live & Let Die” as my 11th birthday present. 1973 was also the year that I experienced nightly power cuts for the first time, as the miners brought the UK to it’s knees!!

However the most enduring legacy of 1973, is that it was the year that I first started to immerse myself in the greatest passion of my life – music!! My best friend introduced me to Slade and The Sweet, whilst my sister ( for her sins ) introduced me to Gary Glitter. Indeed 1973 was the year when “Glam Rock” peaked and the music charts were festooned with glittering, sequinned Glam Rock acts, such as Slade, The Sweet, T-Rex, Gary Glitter, Suzi Quatro, Mud and Wizzard.
