The Chinese New Year is on 23rd January in 2012 and will beckon in the Year of the Dragon………”Enter the Dragon”. To mark this auspicious occasion, MyFirstRecord.co.uk has comprised a Top 12 Chinese Zodiac Songs, orientated around the animals which make up the twelve houses of the Chinese Zodiac.

Rat – How about Michael Jackson’s “Ben”, from the film about a domesticated rat called Ben? It’s either that or Roland Rat!!

Ox – There’s only one contender: Tom Harrell’s “Year of the Ox”

Tiger – It has to be Glam Rockers Mud’s dancefloor filler “Tiger Feet”

Rabbit – How about Art Garfunkel’s “Bright Eyes”, the theme music from the animated film of “Watership Down”?

Dragon – My choice is Peter, Paul & Mary’s politically satirical 1960s song “Puff The Magic Dragon”

Snake – Only one contender, Al Wilson’s Northern Soul classic “The Snake”

Horse – There’s no better choice than America’s 1972 hit “Horse With No Name”

Sheep – Struggling here, so I’m opting for The Pretenders’ “I Go To Sheep”  :-)

Monkey – A flimsy pretext to introduce The Goodies into the list with “Funky Gibbon”

Rooster – Only one contender: Rolling Stones’ “Little Red Rooster”

Dog – Peter Shelley’s “Love Me Love My Dog” or Lobo’s “Me & You & A Dog Named Boo”: take your pick; both incredibly cheesey!!

Pig – Summon Brett Anderson & Suede: “We Are The Pigs”
