Pretenders lead vocalist Chrissie Hynde’s first solo venture, entitled “Stockholm”, will be released on 9th June 2014.

What amazes the Record Press author is that Chrissie Hynde has never produced any solo work away from the Pretenders. So we wait with bated breath for “Stockholm” which was recorded at Ingrid Studios in Stockholm with Björn Yttling, Chrissie Hynde has explained that her goal was to write a “power pop album” that sounds something like “Abba meets John Lennon”.

In addition to her collaboration with Björn Yttling, the album includes two friends of the the Pretenders’ vocalist The song “Down the Wrong Way” features Neil Young on guitar and “A Plan Too Far” includes tennis legend John McEnroe.

“Stockholm” follows the Pretenders’ 2008 album “Break Up the Concrete” and Chrissie Hynde’s collaborative record with Welsh singer JP Jones, named “Fidelity”. The new “Stockholm” album revolves around the upbeat elements of rock music. Chrissie Hynde explains: “So much of rock ‘n’ roll has become what I would call Glory Rock, with family values. It’s the irreverence in rock that was always the turn-on. I disagree with people who say you shouldn’t take yourself too seriously. I think life is serious, and you should take it seriously, but in rock ‘n’ roll either have a fucking laugh or fuck off. ‘Stockholm’ is very danceable.”

There will be 11 tracks on the album and its first single will be “Dark Sunglasses”, released on the 21st April. Whilst we wait for the release of Chrissie Hynde’s new album, let’s remind ourselves of the brilliance of her song writing with the Pretenders with this Top 10 Best Pretenders Songs –
