Incredibly Sir Cliff Richard will release his 100th album in November. This special centenary album will be a collection of American early rock songs, entitled “The Fabulous Rock ‘n’ Roll Songbook” and will include covers of hits by Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly.

Cliff Richard recorded his 100th album in the Blackbird Studio and The Parlor in Nashville, Tennessee and says of it: “This was my chance to pay tribute not only to, in my humble opinion, one of the greatest advances in musical history, but also the artists who took rock ‘n’ roll to the top of the charts world-wide. It was like being back in the 50s with The Shadows in Studio 2 at Abbey Road”.

Cliff Richard added: “That whole period was new and unbelievably exciting, and to think that I was there! Saving up my pocket money for weeks so that I could buy Elvis’s first album – borrowing someone else’s collection of Little Richard (my name in part, was a tribute to him) and skipping school so as to get seats to see Bill Haley play live”.

Cliff Richard released his first album, the self titled “Cliff” in 1959, and has since released 46 studio albums, seven soundtracks, 11 live albums and 35 compilations, and is the only musician to have a number one in five consecutive decades. The Record Press author is mystified why national radio stations Radio 2 and Absolute 60s refuse to have Cliff Richard on their playlists. He warrants being on the playlist of any radio station playing retro music from the last five decades as he has been an instrumental part of the soundtrack of the lives of three generations.

Cliff Richard is to be admired as he has been incredibly prolific over six decades. In order to have sustained such a high level of popularity and success, he has had to be very versatile and adapt to the ever changing landscape and trends of the UK music charts. Total respect to Sir Cliff Richard!!
