It has recently been announced that there will be a re-issue of the Beatles’ 1967 film “Magical Mystery Tour”. The original film was released in the slipstream of “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” and over the years has become a cult film alongside the other two Beatles’ films “Hard Day’s Night” and “Help”.

The plot of Magical Mystery Tour centred on a hallucogenic coach trip to the seaside – although in keeping with the film’s surreal, bizarre nature, perhaps that should be “lost the plot”!! Strangely enough, in keeping with the film, one of the most trippy, surreal and bizarre phenomenon to occur in my life, centred around the “Magical Mystery Tour”. One morning in 1987 I was dreaming randomly about “The Magical Mystery Tour”……..The dream was interrupted as I was awoken by my alarm clock ringing and I immediately turned on the radio on the bedside table……….And what should be playing on Radio 1, but the Beatles’ “Magical Mystery Tour”!! Call it telepathy or a psychic experience, but the whole episode has stayed with me…….

Twenty five years on, a fully restored edition of “Magical Mystery Tour” will be released on the 9th October 2012 with a remixed soundtrack and special features, including scenes that were cut from the original, as well as interviews with the band and cast. “Magical Mystery Tour” will also be released for the big screen, showing in cinemas from 27th September and The British Film Institute have also announced a special screening at London’s BFI Southbank on 2nd October.

The new version of “Magical Mystery Tour” will be supported with a special boxed deluxe edition which will also include both the DVD and Blu-ray version of the film, as well as a 60 page book and 7″ vinyl EP of the film’s six new Beatles songs, “Magical Mystery Tour,” “The Fool On The Hill,” “I Am The Walrus,” “Flying,” “Blue Jay Way” and “Your Mother Should Know”, which were originally issued in the UK to complement the film’s 1967 release.
