Despite Radio1 banning airplay for Robbie Williams and his new single release “Candy” because he is too old to be on the Radio1 playlist, he has topped both the UK singles and album charts with his single “Candy” and album “Take The Crown”.

No doubt Radio1 made the correct decision for their demographic target audience, but the fact is that Robbie Williams has a mass following and universal appeal to those over the age of thirty. Robbie Williams last experienced having a double No1 simultaneously in 2001 when his duet single “Somethin’ Stupid” with Nicole Kidman achieved No1 at the same time as his easy listening covers album “Swing When You’re Winning” was also No1. And therein lies the mass appeal of Robbie Williams. He may not be the best singer, but he is incredibly versatile as he proved conclusively when he adopted the aforementioned swing genre as a forerunner to Michael Buble.

But most of all, Robbie Williams is the consummate entertainer. He is charisma personified and that magnetism simply draws you in whether you are male or female. Women want to sleep with him, blokes want to have a game of football with him, followed by a pint down the local pub!! The only other rock star who has that level of universal impact and attraction across both genders is Rod Stewart. However ultimately Robbie Williams will be remembered for his well crafted songs –
