Great news to hear that the original heavy rock band Black Sabbath are to re-unite to record their first studio album with original frontman Ozzy Osbourne since 1978, backed up with a tour in 2012. The original line-up of Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward are back together properly for the first time sinc Ozzy left the band in 1979.

Black Sabbath made the announcement at a press conference at the Whiskey A-Go-Go in Los Angeles, where Black Sabbath played their first show in the city exactly 41 years ago. It was announced that Black Sabbath will headline Download Festival, which will take place between 8th to 10th June 2012 at Donington Park. Meanwhile, Rick Rubin will produce the group’s comeback album, which is expected to be released in the autumn of 2012 through Vertigo/ Universal Records.

If Led Zeppelin were the original rock band, then Black Sabbath were the original heavy rock band when they announced their arrival in the autumn of 1970 with the incomparable “Paranoid”, which remains to this day one of the great rock anthems. Ozzy Osbourne has had his ups and downs with booze and drug addictions in the best rock traditions, but he will always be a class act, both as performer and as a man. A funnier, warmer and lovelier man you will never meet!! That might not fit in with the original demonic, satanic image of Black Sabbath, but Ozzy Osbourne blew his cover years ago. Having Ozzy Osbourne back with Black Sabbath is like seeing your favourite Uncle take over the dance floor and the disco at a family wedding, but on this occasion family and friends will not be cringing through half covered eyes because Uncle Ozzy has been away from the stage for far too long!!

I’m sure all die hard Black Sabbath devotees and rock fans will not need telling but for the uninitiated, weekend tickets for “Download 2012” go on general sale on 18th November from 9am from www.downloadfestival.co.uk – subject to availability.
