A Mickey Mouse film poster originating from 1928 has been sold for in excess of $100,000 (£62,320) at an auction in Texas. The colour poster is one of the earliest images of Mickey Mouse, created by Walt Disney.

The poster, which depicts a smiling Mickey Mouse, supported by the slogan ‘The World’s Funniest Cartoon Character’ was sold for $101,575 (£63,291) at Heritage Auctions in Dallas. The auction house director Grey Smith described the poster as “an important piece of pop culture treasure,”, adding that it was very likely to be the only Mickey Mouse poster created until 1930, when Columbia Pictures started distributing Disney cartoons.
