Well what a couple weeks of fun and games, Olympic Games that is, we have had!! London 2012 Olympics has confounded even the harshest of critics and the coldest of cynical hearts. In truth, I was fairly tepid and indifferent, until precisely 8-59pm on Friday 27th July when Danny Boyle’s epic production of the Olympics Opening ceremony commenced. How things have changed – the London 2012 Olympic Games have exceeded my wildest expectations. The great British public have fully embraced the Olympic Games and our courageous athletes have responded with zest and zeal.

There have been so many wonderful moments during London 2012 Olympics, including witnesssing swimmer Michael Phelps being anointed as the most successful Olympian of all time and both cyclists Bradley Wiggins and Chris Hoy surpassing Sir Steve Redgrave’s GB Olympic record for gold medals. And of course Jessica Ennis, Mo Farah and Beth Tweddle finally realizing their Olympic dream of winning a medal. Beth Tweddle is bowing out of Olympic competition along with cycle champions Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton, but there are many young athletes to replace.

I don’t mind admitting there have been occasions that I have shed a tear or two as the Union Jack has been raised and the national anthem “God Save the Queen” has struck up!! Away from the official national anthem, there have been a number of unofficial London 2012 Olympics anthems playing with regularity at the various venues, notably Vangelis “Chariots of Fire”, David Bowie’s “Heroes” and of course Spandau Ballet’s “Gold”.

So why not commemorate and celebrate the great national pride we have all experienced during London 2012 Olympics with a record – not a world record, because that’s beyond most of us – but a framed vinyl record.
