Johnnie Walker has recently introduced a new feature to his “Sounds of the Seventies” programme, broadcast every Sunday on Radio Two, between 3 and 5pm. It is fitting that the ex pirate radio station DJ  and veteran broadcaster, who named himself after the famous scotch whisky brand, should be presenting a 1970s retro music show as he was at the peak of his powers in the 1970s. He presented the Radio One Lunctime Show between 1973 and 1976, which  is probably best remembered for the daily feature / quiz  “Pop the Question”, which proved to be very popular with his listeners.

Thirty five years later, Johnnie Walker has come up with another memorable feature – “My First Record”, which is equally firing the imagination of his current listeners, by transporting them back to their youth. There is nothing more evocative than the memory of our first record. The excitement of getting our pocket money, rushing out to the record shop, searching the record racks and grasping it in our sweaty adolescent hands at the counter!! Back at home, we played it over and over again on the gramophone record player, before finally flipping it over and playing the inferior and disappointing B Side!! My first record was somewhat embarassingly The Rubettes’ 1974 No1 “Sugar Baby Love”. It should have been Mud’s “Tiger Feet”, but my mother having bought it for my best mate’s 12th birthday, wouldn’t part with a further 45 pence for a copy for me. I can still remember the sense of dejection and disappointment to this day!!

What was your first record? Would you like it framed and mounted? If so, order it now, by clicking on….. http://www.myfirstrecord.co.uk/

Alternatively you can buy a family member, or friend’s first record……this would make a unique present or original gift for a special celebration  ie a 40th or 50th Birthday, A Silver, Ruby or Golden Wedding Anniversary, an Engagement or Valentine’s Day!!  THE PERFECT PERSONALISED PRESENT!!
