The man who wrote Harry Nilsson’s 1972 No1 “Without You” is to be honoured with a blue plaque in his home city of Swansea. The ceremony will take place in in April 2013

Pete Ham of Badfinger wrote “Without You” which was not only a big hit for Harry Nilsson but also Mariah Carey. Peter Ham was a member of the band Badfinger who recorded on the Beatles’ Apple Records label and worked closely with Paul McCartney and George Harrison. Although Badfinger had relative chart success in the early 1970s, Peter Ham’s song “Without You” will forever eclipse his band’s accomplishments as possibly the greatest love song / ballad of all time.

Of course the title and assessment of “Greatest Love Song of All Time” is completely subjective as different songs move people in different ways, but the author would put Harry Nilsson’s “Without You” at the summit of a Top 20 Best Love Songs of All Time –
