It’s the 40th Anniversary of the release of John Lennon’s seminal album “Imagine”. The album incorporated every aspect and facet of John Lennon’s complex personality, from the romantic idealism and naivete of the title track “Imagine” to the vulnerability of the emotionally damaged, tortured soul within “Crippled Inside” and the jealousy, angst and bitterness of the man, with his vitriolic attack on Paul McCartney in “How do you sleep”.

So much has been said and written about John Lennon that it’s difficult for the author of this blog to come up with anything new and original. Suffice it to say John Lennon and the Beatles are the most chronicled musicians in the history of man!! Therefore I have decided to pay my own tribute to John Lennon on the 40th Anniversary of the release of the album “Imagine”, with an “Ode to John Lennon”, adapting the words of “Imagine” in order to reflect the man and his impact on the world. Imagine there was no Lennon

It’s not easy even if you try

No words of love and compassion

No outlet for us to cry

Imagine a world without him

Making no sense at all…

Imagine no Lennon wit

It’s virtually impossible to do

No sage observations

And no spiritualism too

Imagine all the people

Living life without him…

You may say he was a dreamer

But he was not the only one

I wonder if you can

No need for rock music

No “Peace and Love man”
