Lisa Marie Presley is planning to release a new duet video featuring her late father Elvis Presley according to Contact Music. The father & daughter re-union on video will feature Lisa Marie Presley and Elvis Presley appearing together on the new duet courtesy of IT camera trickery. The duet “I Love You Because” video will premiere on Thursday 18th October on US country music TV channel CMT.
Elvis Presley first recorded “I Love You Because” in 1954 and Lisa Marie Presley decided to record the song after it was suggested by her producer T-Bone Burnett. The video was recorded exclusively for the 25,000 fans attending the 35th anniversary ( of Elvis’ death )
concert in Memphis on 16th August 2012, but the overwhelming response from fans convinced Lisa Marie Presley to release the video into the wider public forum.
Lisa Marie Presley has recorded duets with Elvis Presley voice in the past including hits’ Don’t Cry Daddy” and “In the Ghetto”. It begs the question, if Elvis were still alive, who would he be dueting with now? I would love to have seen him duet with Adele, who would surely have shared a parity with him in terms of power vocals!!
Outside his legions of loyal devotees, I think appreciation of Elvis Presley and his impact on music is beginning to fade 35 years after his death. The rock ‘n’ roll years are over half a century away now and the younger generations inevitably can’t relate to something that existed in their grandparents’ era!!.
That said, we should never under estimate the impact of the advent of the electric guitar and rock ‘n’ roll on music and wider society in general. Elvis Presley single handedly created the “youth culture” we now readily identify with 14 to 24 year olds. Prior to the mid 1950s the youth culture didn’t exist – you went straight from childhood into adulthood and became “mini me’s” of your parents!! Elvis Presley paved the way for the rock and roll movement, and by doing so gave adolescents, teenagers and young adults their own clearly defined identity and a voice.
Although some of Elvis Presley’s early rock and roll songs have stood the test of time ( see Top 10 below ), inevitably over 50 years on, much of his music has a feeling of antiquity about it. However the importance of Elvis Presley can never be under estimated because without him, we would not have had the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Duran Duran or Oasis!!
For the author, Elvis Presley produced his best music in the final decade of his life from 1967 to 1977. The melancholy and pathos he was feeling in his private life translated brilliantly into his “Las Vegas Years” ballads and the increase in weight caused by his emotional problems, gave his already brilliant voice even greater resonance than it had had originally at the outset of his career!! As a reminder of the brilliance of the man and his music, here’s a Top 10 Best Elvis Presley Songs –
