Carole King is to play her first UK concert in more than 25 years at the BST festival in London’s Hyde Park on the 3rd July.

Carole King, aged 74, will play her seminal album Tapestry in full, followed by a smattering of other hits. It will be the first opportunity to see Carole King play in the UK since her City Streets tour in 1989. She commented: “I can’t wait to carole king tapestryperform Tapestry from beginning to end for the first time… in the heart of one of my favourite cities.”

Carole King explained to the BBC that it “actually wasn’t my idea to play the album in full, but no-one has ever thought to ask before and I loved the idea.” She continued: “I’ll be adding other songs because it would be a very short set if I only did Tapestry. I might actually even have it on my social networks where people can offer up their favourites and see if we can get a consensus and help me figure out which songs to add.”

Recorded in the hippie community of Laurel Canyon in 1971, the album Tapestry featured a dozen classic songs, including the standards It’s Too Late, I Feel The Earth Move and You’ve Got A Friend. The Tapestry album made Carole King a star in her own right but she was already a very successful and prolific ­songwriter, having written hits like The Loco-Motion ( Little Eva ), Pleasant Valley Sunday ( the Monkees ) and I’m Into Something Good ( Herman’s Hermits ) with her lyricist ­husband Gerry Goffin.

Carole King put her own stamp of identity on some of her earlier songs on the Tapestry album, including (You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman and Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow. Tapestry spent 15 consecutive weeks at No1 on the Billboard 200 and until Michael Jackson’s Thriller, was the world’s biggest-selling record by a solo artist.
