Bryan Ferry, lead singer with Roxy Music, has received his CBE from the Queen at Buckingham Palace. He wore a morning suit for the investiture ceremony which recognised an incredible recording career spanning nearly 40 years.
For most recipients of a CBE, MBE, OBE or knighthood at the Palace, a morning suit is derigueur and would constitute dressing up, but for Roxy Music’s frontman, sartorial elegance is his trademark. When Bryan Ferry first burst on the scene with Roxy Music during the Glam Rock era in 1972 / 1973, he stood apart from his peers who all looked faintly absurd and incongruous in their glitter and sequinned frocks and jumpsuits. Bryan Ferry very quickly became synonymous with the white tuxedo and bow tie, the very epitome of the debonair, urbane and suave cocktail bar / jazz club singer. Throughout his music career, he has remained the James Bond of the music scene!! Should Bryan Ferry’s music career have not worked out in the 1970s, he would have found instant employment as a Moss Bros mannequin in the window of one of their high street shops!!
