BBC 6 Music is celebrating the vinyl record throughout the month of December, which is very much in keeping with the continued popularity and growing interest in vinyl.
A series of shows kicked off at the weekend on BBC 6 Music, with music journalist Pete Paphides scrutinising Damon Albarn’s vinyl record collection. Further programmes this month will focus on the vinyl record collections belonging to Florence ( Florence and the
Machine ), Hot Chip and Johnny Marr, former lead guitarist with The Smiths.
There is also a full day’s scheduling of programmes celebrating vinyl records on New Year’s Day including a programme which asks ‘Is Vinyl On The Revival?’ presented by Richard Hawley. So as we celebrate the advent of the New Year of 2012 AD and all the technological advancements that will arrive in the coming 365 days and beyond, celebrate the vinyl records of the past. But in keeping with the New Year adage of “Out with the Old and in with the New”, ignore the first part and celebrate old vinyl records and also the fact many contemporary artists now release limited vinyl recordings along with the CD and MP3 Download!!
Vinyl has never gone away and by the looks of it, is very much here to stay!!
