Trevor Bolder, bass player in David Bowie’s 1970s backing band Spiders From Mars, has died at the age of 62. He was part of one of the most influential bands in rock and pop history and played on arguably David Bowie’s three best albums.
Trevor Bolder joined forces with David Bowie in 1971 to play on his fourth album, “Hunky Dory”, along with lead guitarist Mick Ronson
and drummer Woody Woodmansey.
The following year was David Bowie and the Spiders From Mars breakthrough with 1972’s classic album “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars”, which launched Bowie and the band into the music stratosphere. Spiders From Mars supported Bowie on the subsequent albums “Aladdin Sane” and “Pin-Ups” before David Bowie split from the Spiders From Mars and moved to the US.
The life of backing band Spiders From Mars may have been relatively shortlived, but it spanned three of David Bowie’s greatest albums –
1) The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust
2) Hunky Dory
3) Aladdin Sane
4) Heroes
5) Diamond Dogs
