Damien Hirst’s new Brits statuette design surely points the way to Robbie Williams winning a Brit for Best Single with “Candy”!! The new Brits Statuette bears an uncanny resemblance to the cover artwork of Robbie’s recent single “Candy”!!

Robbie Williams has got stiff competition from Adele in the Best Single category, who’s James Bond theme “Skyfall” has also received an Oscar nomination. Adele dominated the Brits 2012 but this year sees Emeli Sande dominate with four nominations for the 2013 Brit Awards.

Emeli Sande, who had the best-selling album (1.4 million copies ) in the UK last year with “Our Version of Events”, is up for Best Female, Best Album and has two tracks in the Best Single category. There are also three nominations each for Mumford and Sons and Mercury Prize winners Alt-J and Rita Ora has three nominations, including two in the Best Single list. Meanwhile Muse, Paloma Faith, Plan B, Olly Murs, Jessie Ware, Ben Howard, Rihanna and Coldplay are nominated for two awards.

In one of the most eclectic Brits nominations lists for some time, Amy Winehouse gets a nomination for Best British Female for the album “Lioness: Hidden Treasures”, which compiled rare material, unreleased tracks and alternative recordings after her death in 2011.

The award for Best Live Act has been resurrected this year and the Rolling Stones gain a nomination, after they were shortlisted for the first ever Brit Awards in 1978. I’m sure this category was re-introduced to give the Rolling Stones a presence and recognition after celebrating their 50th Anniversary in 2012. It is a bit like inviting the grandparents to an 18th Birthday Party – you feel obliged to invite them, but just hope they don’t embarrass you or stay too long!! Knowing the Rolling Stones’ propensity for longevity over the past 50 years, I’m sure they will be last to leave the Brits after show party!!
